This Dove was designed by an interdisciplinary team of artists from The Center for Discovery (TCFD), including Chris Kilgore, Christine Record, and Yaritza Rivera from Fine Arts Education; Emma Stokes from Admissions; Mark McNamara from the Technology Hub and Incubator (THINC); and Charlie Blume from Landscape Design. To paint the Dove, this dedicated team worked collaboratively with more than a dozen of TCFD’s pediatric students and adult residents, all of whom have complex autism or medical frailties. Designated as a Center of Excellence in New York State and headquartered in Sullivan County, TCFD conducts groundbreaking research and offers world-renowned residential, medical, clinical, and special education programs to over 1,200 children, adults and families annually. These programs are designed to unlock each individual’s potential to explore, to learn, and to grow, while providing them with a seamless connection to their community.
DOVE INSPIRATION: The Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark Dove was also designed by six staff artists spanning four different departments within The Center for Discovery. Overseen by The Center’s Arts Education program, the dove also enlisted the help of seventeen TCFD students, who painted different portions of the dove.. Inspiration from the dove was drawn from the Kartrite’s unique approach to attract visitors from outside of Sullivan County into the area, so it’s no surprise that it features a city-scape to welcome those that travel from afar. The team also set out to create a design that fostered all that is abundant and remarkable in the Catskills, like the beautiful countryside and rolling hills! The guitar, peace symbol, heart, and flowers thoughtfully pay homage to the original 1969 Woodstock festival, and the mesmerizing streams of water represent the newest addition in the region – the Kartrite.
