Dove Artists

Carol Smith Youngsville-based artist Carol Smith holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in painting from Florida State University. Her paintings have been exhibited in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Vermont. Notable exhibitions include Corbino Gallery, Sarasota, Virginia Miller Gallery, Miami, D.C. Space, Washington D.C., The Foundry Gallery, Washington D.C., and the Amos Eno Gallery, New York, New York. She has been awarded grants and fellowships from numerous organizations, including the New York State Council on the Arts, the Vermont Council on the Arts, the Absolute Vodka State Design Contest, and the Leslie T. Posey Scholarship for Undergraduate Study. Kevin Dean, Professor of Art at the Ringling School of Art and Design, wrote a brief essay on Smith’s work, describing her as “a superb colorist who works with complex combinations of carefully keyed hues that produce harmonious effects . The paint application is as smooth as the transitions between tones and colors.” Carol is also a musician and co-founder of the Americana band Little Sparrow. The band has performed for ten years throughout the tri-state region, at festivals and concert venues including The Tusten Theater, The Cooperage, The Event Gallery at Bethel Woods, Bethel Woods Harvest Festival, Riverfest, Honesdale Roots and Rhythm Festival, The Sullivan County Museum, The Hawley Silk Mill and The Ritz Theater, in Hawley, PA.

DOVE INSPIRATION: The lower part of the dove portrays the lake and the mountains, highlighting the natural beauty of Fallsburg. The organic shapes in the wing suggest the free-flowing lines that defined the art of the Woodstock era. Two symbols, one on the tail and one on the breast, are references to music and spirituality.
