Artist: Margaret and Chris Helthaler
The Neversink Dove was painted by wife-and-husband team Margaret and Chris Helthaler – owners of Standing Impressions.com. Margaret is an artist and educator with thirty years of experience in the graphic design industry. Her art is inspired by a deep attachment to nature and the rural landscape. She enjoys exploring photography and other mediums. A few years ago, Chris traded his long commute for the joys of woodworking. The practice evokes childhood memories of building a house with his parents and little sister. Together Margaret and Chris create home decor items inspired by the beauty and natural resources of the Catskill Mountains – including local landscape fine art photography imprinted on ceramic tiles, wall art, handcrafted cocktail tables, salvaged wood candle holders and other functional decorative pieces.
DOVE INSPIRATION: The dove design was inspired by the Barn Quilts of Neversink – a Neversink Renaissance project launched in 2006 which has yielded over 75 barn quilts placed on historic barns, outbuildings and businesses throughout the Town of Neversink. At the center of the dove sits a quilted version of our iconic covered bridge which marks the entrance to the Grahamsville Little World’s Fair – established in 1879, it is the longest running independent fair in New York.
